Registration and desexing
If you own a breeding an animal in NSW, you must register them on the NSW Pet Registry as a breeding animal. You must do this at council and provide additional documentation.
With the rollout of the new NSW Digital Pet Registry, only the standard registration fee is payable by 12 weeks, regardless of the pet’s desexed status. This applies to registrations paid via the NSW Digital Pet Registry, or when fees are paid at council.
1. Using the NSW Digital Pet Registry
If you choose to keep a litter pet, once they are over 8 weeks old and microchipped you can add them to your pets.
Select the pet you would like to keep, and in their timeline click ‘Keep pet’. They will now appear on your ‘My pets’ page.
You must visit your local council to register a recognised breeding animal and supply additional documentation.
2. Complete Registration R2 form
Breeders must pay the standard registration fee and register their breeding pets by 12 weeks. Take a completed Registration R2 form to council and pay the standard registration fee.
3. Provide council with additional documentation
You must give council documentation to prove that the registered animal qualifies as a recognised breeding animal. This mean you will not have to pay an additional fee for non-desexed dogs over 6 months old, or an annual permit fee for non-desexed cats over 4 months old.
